Visual Art – Photography:
A portfolio presentation must include:
1. A portrait
2. Two pieces from any two of the following choices:
a) Landscape
b) Shadow / Light / Reflection
c) Darkroom or Computer Manipulation
3. Four to six other photographs your best work.
All works should be 5” by 7” or larger prints, in color or black and white. Please identify each work with your name, address, and phone number.
Visual Art – Painting / Drawing / Sculpture:
A portfolio presentation must include:
1. A portrait, in any medium
2. A still life, in any medium
3. Something from your imagination, in any medium
4. A painting using colorA photograph or slide of a 3-D work, in any medium
5. 2 – 5 other pieces that exhibit the best and most interesting aspects of your work
Works can be submitted in any media or technique and should represent a variety of approaches. For two-dimensional works the original work, slides, or photographs will be accepted. For three-dimensional works please submit only slides or photographs. Please identify each work with your name, address, and phone number on the back of each work.
Portfolios are accepted in both hardcopy/traditional form or digitally, either via email or on a disc.
Visual Art - Digital Art:
A portfolio presentation must include:
1. A manipulated portrait photo using Photoshop or some other photography software
2. A manipulated landscape photo
3. Four to six quality Digital Art pieces that show interesting aspects of your work using one of the following programs:
a. Adobe Photoshop
b. Adobe Illustrator
c. Corel Painter
d. Flash
e. An alternate digital manipulation software
All works should be printed 5 x 7” or larger. Please identify each work with your name, address, and phone number.
Theater Arts:
1. Students are required to perform two contrasting monologues of one
minute or less. Examples of contrasting monologues include: one classical
and one modern; one serious and one comical; one in your age range and
one not in your age group, etc.
2. Students may also be asked to cold read from a script provided at
the audition.
Musical Theater:
1. Students are required to perform one monologue (between one and two minutes in length) and also perform a song from a musical theater piece (one verse plus chorus). Please choose a monologue from a published play or novel, not from a monologue book or monologue websites. Students must know the author of the monologue.
2. Students may also be asked to read cold from a script provided at the audition or to learn a short piece of choreography at the audition.
Video and Film:
Please be prepared to present two examples of your work from the list
below:
1. Completed film or video (approximately 5 minutes)
2. Storyboard (similar to a comic strip that is a hand illustrated version
of key scenes and edits as they would appear in a short video or movie)
3. Audio tapes (3-5 minutes in length) ex.: sound track for a film,
sound effects
4. Short stories or scripts (3 – 5 pages)
5. 2-5 examples of art work, i.e.: props, backdrops, costumes, models,
graphics, computer designs
Instrumental Music:
1. Prepare a piece of music that demonstrates your skill and ability
level in any style that should not exceed 5 minutes.
2. Be prepared to play one two-octave major and one two octave minor
scale in eighth notes at a metronome marking of quarter note equals
80 in any of the following concert keys: C major, Bb major, F major,
C melodic minor, Bb melodic minor, and F melodic minor.
3. Be prepared to sight-read a short piece of music.
Vocal Music:
1. Be prepared to perform two contrasting pieces (i.e. classical and
jazz), not to exceed five minutes.
2. Be prepared to sight-sing a short piece of music.
3. Be prepared to sing a series of exercises to evaluate ability to
match pitch, range, and musicianship.
An accompanist will be provided if requested. Feel free to bring your
own accompanist if desired.
Dance:
1. Perform a short choreographed or improvised piece that best exhibit
your dance technique and passion (2 to 5 minutes, CD/tape player will
be available for accompaniment)
2. You will then learn a brief combination that will demonstrate your
ability to learn choreography.
3. A short improvisation exercise will follow that will show your comfort
level with a variety of music and dance styles.
Come dressed in tights, leotard and dance shoes or in other appropriate
movement attire.
Creative Writing:
The creative writing department needs your portfolio two weeks prior
to your audition date in order to review it and be more prepared for
your audition/interview. Please mail or deliver to:

1. Please submit a notebook or portfolio of your writing. The notebook
should contain between ten and twenty pages of your writing examples
– short story, poetry, creative or personal essay, song lyrics,
journalistic articles, comics (in which case, drawings would be appropriate),
or any other genre you think suitable. Your samples may be complete or incomplete, so if you wish to submit
a work-in-progress, please do so.
2. Along with the notebook, include a typed, double-spaced essay on
the following situation: You are shipwrecked on a deserted island. Describe
the dwelling you have concocted to live in, including its surroundings.
Characterize a typical weekly routine that, by the way, includes your
delving into three beloved books you had packed -- and three cherished
films that you have with you that, through the alchemy of imagination,
you actually could watch. Include which films and books they are, and
why.
Please provide us with a self-addressed stamped 11 x 14 envelope so
that we may return your writing samples to you. |
